2A Cross Country: W.F. West’s Emma Moon Wins on Home Turf

Emma Moon won on her home course Wednesday, taking first in a three-team Evergreen 2A Conference cross country meet at Stan Hedwall Park in Chehalis.

Moon, a W.F. West senior, won the 5K girls race in 20 minutes, 33 seconds, putting 42 seconds between herself and runner-up Hannah Reynolds of Tumwater.

W.F. West’s Savannah Johnston and Mya Davis finished ninth and 10th, in 22:59 and 23:32, respectively.

Joseph Morrissey of Tumwater won the boys race in 16:45, with W.F. West’s Sonny Holub (17:50) and Francisco Lima (17:55) taking second and third. Myles Johnston was seventh for the Bearcats, while Dallas Taylor with eighth and Rochester’s Seth Moceri finished 11th.

Tumwater won both the boys and girls team events.

Rochester runs at the Toutle Lake Invitational next Saturday. W.F. West runs at the Curtis Invitational in University Place on the same day.

Apperson’s Win at Fast and Flat Meet

RANDLE — Adna’s Austen Apperson won the boys race, and his sister Lauryn Apperson won the girls race at the Fast and Flat cross country meet here on Tuesday.

Adna boys finished second as a team to Kalama. Morton-White Pass placed fourth and Onalaska finished in fifth.

Austen Apperson completed the race in 15 minutes, 47 seconds, ahead of Onalaska’s Zachary Wright finishing second (17:02). Morton-White Pass’ Manuel Martinez finished sixth (18:20). Adna’s Adam Mower placed 13th (19:43) and Aaron Slape finished in 14th (19:44).

On the girls side, Lauryn Apperson won in 21:36. Morton-White Pass’ Kaylen Collette finished second in 21:54, and teammate Jaylea Rahenkamp placed fifth (22:47). Timberwolves’ Elexcious Hampton placed 11th (23:55) and Alissa Hughes ended up 14th (25:12).

MWP’s David Martinez won the middle school boys race in 9:17, and MWP’s Ayricka Hughes was second in the girls race in 11:38.

Adna will be back in action on Saturday in the King’s Cross Invite, and will host a Central 2B League race — with Morton-White Pass in attendance — on Tuesday.
