Paisley and Todd to Perform at Independence Valley Chicken Races

For almost four decades, the Independence Valley Chicken Races have been a fun event for families. This year’s event on Sunday will feature music by Paisley and Todd of the bluegrass band Pickled Okra.

Events will include lunch and races featuring locally raised chickens. Participants can rent one for a dollar or bring their own to compete (hens only please). Awards will be given for first-, second- and third place. Racing begins at 2 p.m.

There will be raffle prizes from dozens of local business as well as the chance to win a rhody from Down’s Rhododendrons with the purchase of a chicken race button.



A hamburger/hot dog lunch starts at noon. Adult meals are $8; children 5 and under are $5.

All of the events are held at the Independence Valley Community Hall, 148 Nelson Road, southwest of Rochester.
