Fuller Played Key Role in Skate Park Creation

To the editor:

In 2002, Rob Fuller contacted me requesting information about the development of the Twin City Skate Park at Rotary Riverside Park in Centralia. We met and talked about my passion, which he shared, regarding the importance of providing our local youth a safe public facility designed for skateboards, roller blades and bikes within the Lewis County area.

His donation of $100,000 provided us the opportunity for matching grants to start the project moving forward.

At the time of donation, Fuller did it anonymously, typically in Rob form, not wanting recognition. However, after numerous discussions, Fuller agreed to allow me to share with the youths who donated the extravagant amount of money that was assisting them to meet their goals.

These local youths were insistent about meeting and thanking him directly. To my surprise and approval, the youths stood strong and were adamant about naming the park after him and including both Chehalis and Centralia, therefore naming our vision the “Fuller’s Twin City Skate Park.”

The youths told Fuller, “We’ve got the money and you are going to get the name, end of discussion.” Fuller smiled and conceded.

Currently, we are working toward the completion of the concession stand. We are establishing a venue where the local youth can raise money ongoing to support the maintenance of their park. Painting, trimming and preparing for the anticipated opening of this concession stand has been under way. Additional funding will provide continued growth in structures within the park facility, assisting us in the completion of the park.

Fuller’s wishes were shared with myself and Denny Waller, publisher of The Chronicle, that we see the Fuller’s Twin City Skate Park through to its completion. I would like to provide an option to his friends in assisting in the finalization of his/our vision. Fuller’s Twin City Skate Park has established a 501(c)(3), Fuller’s Skate Park, West Coast Bank, 290 N.W. Chehalis Ave., Chehalis, WA 98532. All donations are tax deductible.

Fuller was initially a financial contributor to the project, but within a short time became a mentor to me as a community activist and, above all, my friend. We would not be this far along without his continued support, encouragement and participation.

It saddens me deeply that I was unable to complete our park project before his passing. We have come so far, and we/I need to finish our vision.

If you have any questions regarding the project or how you can make a difference, feel free to contact me at 266-7909.

Who Is to Blame for Our Nation’s Problems?

To the editor:

Josef Stalin governed at gunpoint. It lasted 30 years.

George Washington and Thomas Jefferson governed by positive principles. It was lasted more than 200 years.

Therefore, when we look at the mess America is in today we must ask ourselves what went wrong. Was it selfish personal interests by people who claimed to do what the Founding Fathers did? Was it presidents trying to live a lie? Was it the sum of immoral behavior by the voters?

Before one tries “it was them, not us,” who bought the Beatles’ filth? Who let Nazi Germany surrender to the U.S. to escape ally Soviet Union (and Hitler’s Volkswagen into the U.S. economy in 1948) to get elected president? Who elected congressmen who allowed presidents to get away with going to war without congressional declaration?

Who skips church to escape control of the Christian influences that built the strong America to which most allude, figuring past glory will care the other nations on the planet?

Take a deep breath and watch it sometime. Those Wall Street salaries and homeless squalors are observable facts. There was no homeless class until President Richard Nixon deserted his post as commander in chief of the armed forces in the ‘70s.

As Nixon got Gerald Ford for vice president, Ford never got above Nixon, and Nixon could not relieve himself as he left. A president cannot resign without deserting his post. Even “Uncle Joe” knew that civilians cannot relieve commanders. Military general orders say, “I will quit my post only when properly relieved.”

Therefore, good people of Lewis County, it is needed: a principle for getting rid of the liars. The only thing politicians fear is being caught in a scandal or not getting re-elected, as it shows their constituents hate them and everybody knows it.

Jesus Christ said, “By their fruits ye shall know them.” The fruits of the word “incumbent” is the status quo mess the United States is in.

Ergo, vote against all incumbents, and the newcomers will see the writing on the wall.
