Letter to the Editor: We Should Take Action to Protect Integrity of Vote

Posted

A recent bill (Senate Bill 5165) sponsored by Democrats in the Seattle area has now passed in the Senate and moves to the House. It proposes citizenship or immigration status be added to current law against discrimination based on race, creed, color, national origin, families with children, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, age, veteran’s status or disability.

The current anti-discrimination law doesn’t prevent people from being employed (legally), real estate transactions, credit transactions or insurance transactions if they are in fact U.S. citizens or have proper documentation.

What this bill is about is putting another law in place that gives illegal immigrants access to resources afforded to U.S. citizens by interjecting discrimination to dilute the illegal status and attempt to make it a non-issue.

Being an illegal immigrant is not a matter of discrimination, it is the result of being an illegal immigrant and not a U.S. citizen. This bill, among other legislation recently passed, is just another step toward more illegal immigrants voting and nullifying U.S. legal citizen votes!

In February 2018 “automatic” voter registration passed out of the Senate awaiting review and action in the House. Related to that proposed legislation, research indicates that one does not have to provide proof of U.S. citizenship to get a Washington driver’s license or an ldenticard.

Another proposed bill (House Bill 2595) notes that anyone 18 years or older who “interacts” with the state Department of Motor Vehicles is registered to vote. So how many non-U.S. citizens are now “registered to vote” and added to the voter rosters — with no proof of U.S. citizenship.

Another related bill being promoted by Gov. Jay lnslee would preregister 16 and 17 year olds and allow voter registration the same day. How can or is this data being verified and  monitored?

We often hear reference to legislation and some state laws that are designed to diminish or remove voting laws that would ultimately allow non-citizens to vote for one reason or another, i.e., because they have a driver’s license or are on a school board or municipality board of one kind or another.

Following are more examples: (1) Texas attorney general Ken Paxton said there are 95,000 noncitizens registered to vote in Texas and the secretary of state says 58,000 of those may have voted illegally in at least one election. (2) Pennsylvania is said to have 11,000 noncitizen voters, and (3) California registers voters based on possession of a driver’s license, which is given to illegal immigrants.

How is it a known fact that there are many thousands of illegal voters and all we do is talk about it, while Democratic politicians cry discrimination and push another anti-U.S. citizen bill in an effort to continue the war on any voter I.D. or cry voter suppression, while knowingly register illegal immigrants to vote via driver’s licenses and/or other means?

Many of the above noted actions are systematically diluting and defrauding the integrity of our current voting system. Let’s work to protect our voting rights for our citizens and protect our great country before it is too late.
