Letter to the Editor: Toledo is a Great Place for Families — Vote for School Bond

Posted

Toledo provides an excellent new home for families moving into or relocating within Western Washington. I moved to the Toledo area from Oregon in 2015 and have never regretted my decision to relocate.

Lewis County represents one of the last affordable places to buy property, build a house, and live along the Interstate 5 corridor. The high cost of living in most of Western Washington has inspired many families to consider moving to Lewis County.

Moving to the Toledo area is especially desirable if the new residents’ work allows them to telecommute, thanks to high-speed internet provided by ToledoTel.

Toledo is a beautiful place that is populated with friendly people, has interesting events, a mild climate, and is close to skiing, hiking, fishing and the beach. All these factors make this area ideal place for raising a family.

Sadly, all these wonderful qualities will not be enough to bring a new family to the Toledo area if Toledo High School is outdated, deteriorating and doesn’t have modern technology. Not only does Toledo High School need to provide an optimum environment for student learning, it also needs to have the facilities necessary to teach students high-tech, computer-based skills that are critical for their success in the current marketplace.

Building a new high school facility with a combination of state and local funds makes sense on multiple levels. Not only will the new school improve the job skills of current residents’ children and provide them with the type of learning environment they deserve, it will also attract new residents to Toledo, which builds the local economy.

Please join me in voting yes on the bond measure in November for the new Toledo High School.
