Letter to the Editor: Chronicle Has Made a Mockery of Election With Front Page Photo, Endorsements

Posted

First of all, I would like to say thank you to all the registered voters that took the time to vote and have their votes count. It is very important that we take that right given to us and have our voices heard. So many say they want things to change. Well, if we don’t vote then that can’t happen.

There were a couple of positions in our county that could have gone in different directions. No matter how they ended up, these were hard-hitting races and the fact that The Chronicle had to plaster the picture that they did on the front page was very disheartening.

I don’t agree with the fact that a local newspaper publicly announces and endorses which candidate they support. Aren’t they supposed to be a local newspaper for all of Lewis County and all candidates and to give equal opportunity to each of them.

How can you honestly say that was done when your support is for one over the other. That is how favoritism is perceived by many, and the bias was quite apparent.

I understand that The Chronicle took a stand to support Dianne Dorey for Lewis County assessor, but as a public entity can it be a little more compassionate for the other party? There were many photos taken by The Chronicle that night, and for some reason they felt the need to use the one that they did on the front page. Was that really necessary?

Amanda Price ran a great campaign. She stayed positive, including any comments she made referencing the opposing party. Was she disappointed? Well, of course she was. Amanda ran for a position that she knew she had the knowledge to do as it needed to be done, but she also had the support from many people — even a lot of Republicans.

So no matter how you voted, always put yourself in the position of the party that didn’t win. Don’t make a mockery of our system, because truly that is exactly what The Chronicle has done.
