Regarding M.G. Kimbrel’s letter in the Feb. 28 issue, it would be interesting to imagine if Kimbrel would have written a similar letter in 2008, immediately after Barack Obama was elected, inserting Obama in place of Trump, and urging folks to rally around that new POTUS (Obama).
I seem to remember certain Senate leaders stating that their goal at that time was to “cause Obama to fail,” or words to that effect, and a large, vocal number of folks supporting that desire. “Respectful disagreement” was nothing I observed.
On the contrary, as “bashing of the president’s personality, or the way he speaks or carries himself” was brought to perhaps a new level. Politics have a way of making hypocrites out of us, and that seems to be the case here.
I did not like or vote for Obama, and while I objected to many of his actions, he did not bring down the Union, at least immediately. Neither did I vote for Trump, but as with Obama I am willing to wait and see how things go.
Hopefully, it will be no worse than it would have been with Hillary Clinton.
Finally, while I probably shouldn’t, I cannot help but enjoy the liberals and progressives whining and gnashing of teeth, though. What a sight.
