John McCroskey Commentary: It’s Free Speech Here as Long as You Agree With the Liberals

Posted

Settled science … ever heard that term? It’s used all the time to unfairly mock anyone who disagrees with the human-caused global climate change debate. First global cooling, then global warming and finally climate change because the “models” they’ve used haven’t guessed right yet.

Reminds me of the sad people who sometimes make the news claiming the world will end on Tuesday. It didn’t, but that doesn’t stop the next guy from picking another date.

It’s not really a debate anymore though because now there is a call to imprison those who disagree.

Bill Nye, the “not really a science guy,” is OK with that. Good idea in a country where free speech used to mean just that, but now it means free speech as long as you agree with liberals — or are in a “free speech” zone with a permit.

It’d be funny if it weren’t so serious.

Now we have the transgender issue and a federal proclamation that schools must allow kids to choose their gender identity, therefore the bathroom and shower of their choice. If not, the government threatens to cut school funding (which they also get from the parents who object to boys in the girls bathroom) based on some ludicrous non-existent, made-up authority.

Except the “settled science” doesn’t support their position.

Dr. Paul R. McHugh is the former psychiatrist-in-chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital and its current distinguished service professor of psychiatry. Seems like a pretty distinguished guy to me.

He said that transgenderism (which my computer suggests isn’t a real word) is a mental disorder that merits treatment, that sex change is biologically impossible, and that people who promote sexual reassignment surgery are collaborating with and promoting a mental disorder.

But what does he know? He’s not a Hollywood elite or politician, although he does seem pretty qualified and sure those pushing this agenda are wrong.

McHugh is also an author of six books and about 125 peer-reviewed medical articles. Now, Bruce Springsteen, and other elites like him are really smart and all, just have no idea what they are talking about. That’s nothing new for Hollywood and entertainers; they say stupid things all the time.

So while Obama, Target and others demand we accept this behavior as normal, McHugh says “policymakers and media are doing no favors either to the public or the transgendered by treating their confusions as a right in need of defending …”

“‘Sex change’ is biologically impossible,” said McHugh. “People who undergo sex-reassignment surgery do not change from men to women or vice versa. Rather, they become feminized men or masculinized women. Claiming that this is civil-rights matter and encouraging surgical intervention is in reality to collaborate with and promote a mental disorder.”

That’s one reason Johns Hopkins quit doing reassignment surgery.

And he’s not the only one. “The American College of Pediatricians urges educators and legislators to reject all policies that condition children to accept as normal a life of chemical and surgical impersonation of the opposite sex. …”

“Facts — not ideology — determine reality.” It sure should but just doesn’t seem to right now.

 Politics does.

“Human sexuality is an objective biological binary trait: ‘XY’ and ‘XX’

“No one is born with a gender. Everyone is born with a biological sex.

“A person’s belief that he or she is something they are not is, at best, a sign of confused thinking.”

So there you have it, settled science. If it’s good enough for global warming, global cooling or just plain climate change, shouldn’t it be good enough for gender fluidity too?

 Not likely.

These folks need treatment, compassion, and, to the extent we can, our understanding.

What they don’t need is access to the girls’ bathrooms and showers.
