Winona Faith

Winona, known as Nonie to all her family over the years, was born to Gustof and Tamar Isackson June 18, 1923, in Redmond, Wash. She passed away July 4, 2018, in Chehalis, Wash.

She grew up on a farm along what is now known as Redmond Fall City Highway. Winona married Charles Faith, who also lived down the road from the Isackson Farm. Charlie, as family knew him, and Winona, were on the move due to World War II, and Winona followed him when she could.

Winona lived across the highway on land purchased from her half-sister and brother-in-law, Marjory and Harry Venema. Nephew, Bill Venema and nieces, Judy Gillis and Janet Richardson grew up living on their parent’s farm across from Aunt Winona and Uncle Charlie. One time their pigs escaped, what a job they all had to corral and take those animals back home!

As time went by, Winona and Charles moved into a small cabin type home in the same area. They continued to live there until they built a nice comfortable home where they lived for years. Later, it was decided to move down to Charlie’s parents place in another new house.

Winona worked for five years as a telephone operator, and attended banking courses in Seattle. She worked for several years at banks in Carnation, Wash., and Redmond, WA, as operator of machines for banking and as a bank teller. One of Winona’s favorite pieces of music was “Red River Valley,” followed by “Curtains of Night,” a song loved by her family when she was growing up. When Winona and Charles moved to Onalaska, Wash., family visited them as often as possible. After Charles passed away, Winona was kindly taken in by Patti and Terry Wood, who provided a loving and caring home for the remainder of her years.

Winona was preceded in death by her sister, Marjory, who died on the same day, July 4, nine years before; and her brothers, Claude Isackson and George Isackson.

Winona’s surviving ‘Isackson’ family members include her nephews, Clarke Isackson, George Isackson, Jr. and Rick Isackson; and nieces, Carol Woody, Helen Wilsey and Cathy Weber. Winona is survived by a number of other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Toledo, Wash. Interment will follow the service at Alpha Cemetery in Onalaska, Wash.
