 Thomas James Kinsman “Jim” passed away at his home Monday, May 15, 2017. He was born in Renton, Wash., March 4, 1945.

Jim was a longtime resident of Toledo, Wash., moving there after graduating from high school in Onalaska, Wash.

He served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. His  actions during his service in the Vietnam War were considered above and beyond the call of duty and he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1969, by President Nixon. Following his service, Jim went back to his career of logging and later farming.

Jim married Deloris Binion Oct. 30, 1971. They settled in Toledo Wash., where he started farming and lived for the remainder of his life. They had seven children, who have survived him; and 20 grandchildren.

He is remembered as an honest and generous man, beloved by those who met him. Many came to him in times of need and he never hesitated to help anyone who asked, family, friends and neighbors. Jim loved to garden and kept close care of his farm and animals. He has touched the lives of many people and he will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at Saint Francis Xavier Mission, Toledo, Wash., Monday, May 22, 2017, at 11 a.m. Reception will follow in the church hall.
