Shirley Laurene (Leathers) Murray

Posted

Shirley Laurene (Leathers) Murray was born to Clyde and Lydia (Roth) Leathers in Centralia, Wash., Aug. 8, 1928. She grew up in Winlock, Wash., with her two siblings.

She graduated from Winlock High School and attended beauty school before marrying Ronald Murray in 1949. They were married for 52 years and had nine children together; six girls and three boys.

Shirley was a homemaker and thoroughly enjoyed antiquing and hunting. Animals were high on her list of favorite things! Cats, goats, ducks, cows and birds were amongst the animals that she raised and enjoyed being around.

She had 27 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Shirley loved babies, they always brought a smile to her face.

Shirley and Ronald moved to their Castle Rock home in 1960, and she remained there until her last days on earth.

Shirley loved being at home and tending to the homestead. Reading and listening to music, especially, Charlotte Church and Shirley Temple were some of her favorite pastimes. She was a strong believer in nutrition and loved to tell others about what foods and supplements to consume. Everyone knew when Easter came around, they’d get vitamins in their Easter baskets instead of candy. She was also big time into politics, as she was a republican through and through.

She will be missed dearly, but we all know she’s dancing in heaven to Free Bird!

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 26, 2018, at the Winlock Cemetery, with a potluck celebration of life to follow at her daughter’s house in Longview.

Arrangements are under the care of Cattermole Funeral Home, Winlock, cattermolefh.com.
