On Sunday, April 4, 2004, Ruby C. Meyer passed away at Liberty Country Place, Centralia, at the age of 85. Ruby was born May 28, 1918, in Shoshone, ID, to Clayton Bert and Olive May (Shaw) Sparks.

Ruby was raised in Onalaska and graduated from Onalaska High School in 1936. She married Eugene D. Slemp of Napavine, WA on October 28, 1937, making their home in Napavine.

She was very active in the community & schools, having the 1958 Napavine High School Annual dedicated to her. She was a life member of the Napavine Rebekah Lodge #179.

On March 29, 1961, Ruby married James H. Meyer of Toppenish, WA making their home in Centralia, WA. Ruby was the head chef and managed the cafeteria at Centralia College for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1980. She enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds, spending time at the beach, and cooking family meals. She will always be remembered for her apple pies.

Ruby was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer M. Slemp in 1956; husband James H. Meyer; brothers Clark, Carl, Bert, Harold, and Robert Sparks and sister Pearl Cleveland.

Survived by a sister Opal Lester, Curlew, WA; brother Don Sparks, Bandon, OR; two sons, Edward E Slemp of Rochester, WA and Robert D. Slemp of Napavine, WA; grand-children: Scott W. Slemp, Rochester, WA, Kimberly Taylor, Carson, WA, Wendy Buchanan, Ridgefield, WA, Jenifer Slemp, Centralia, WA, Rex Slemp, Rochester, WA and Suann Grover, Federal Way, WA. Lifetime friend and sister-in-law Grace Lindquist, Chehalis, WA; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services for Ruby will be held at the Napavine Cemetery on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at 2:00 p.m., with the Napavine Rebekah Lodge officiating.

Visitation may be made at Newell-Hoerling's Mort-uary on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 from 3-7 p.m. Arrangements under the care and direction of Newell-Hoerling's Chapel, Centralia.
