Rheata Bernadette Hayward, 84, of Chehalis, Wash., passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2019, in Centralia, Wash., after a brief illness. She was born in Tacoma, Wash., Nov. 8, 1934, to Daniel and Yvonne (Ward) Bacon.

Rheata graduated from St. Leo High School in 1952. She met her beloved husband, Charles Hayward in 1950, and the two were married in Alaska in 1955. They had four children. Rheata retired as an auditor for the United States Coast Guard in 1991. She and Charles then moved to Washington from their previous home in Alaska. Rheata was devoted to her husband and children. She loved to fish and paint. She also enjoyed basket weaving and was an excellent artist and crafter.

Rheata was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; daughter, Michelle Graham; and parents.

Rheata is lovingly remembered by her sons, Charles (Sue) Hayward and Daniel Hayward; daughter, Rachel (Ron) Winn; grandsons, Charles III and Daniel Hayward; brother, Donald (Nola) Bacon; and many other extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be open from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, at Sticklin Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m., also at Sticklin, with refreshments to follow in the Chapel’s Hospitality Room. Interment will take place at 4 p.m., at Mountain View Cemetery, 1113 Caveness Dr., Centralia, WA 98531.
