Hubert "Herb" Lincoln Johnson, 81, of Westport,  passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital. He was born in East Gary, Ind., Sept. 26, 1937, to Lincoln Herbert Johnson and Eduth Louise Johnson.

Herb was preceded in death by his father, Lincoln; mother, Louise Johnson of Centralia; and sister, Carolyn Marcotte, also of Centralia.

He is survived by his brothers, James (Sally) Johnson of Centralia, Richard (Karen) Johnson of Vancouver and Charles (Judy) Johnson of Olympia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Herb is also survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Mickie; and granddaughter, Shae-Lynn of the family home in Westport; son, Joel S. Johnson, of Centralia; daughter, Jill Rutledge; granddaughter, Erica Dore; and grandson, Steven Rutledge, all of Seattle. 

Herb graduated from Onalaska and worked various jobs. He was well known in Lewis County for refereeing high school sports. He started his career with United Parcel Service in Chehalis and retired the first time from United Parcel Service as manager of Seattle Pre-Load after 26 years of service. Hubert then moved to the Grayland-Westport area, where he embarked on a second career, retiring again after 18 years from Ocosta School District as transportation supervisor.  He enjoyed the challenge of working on the school buses and working with his drivers.  Hubert enjoyed remodeling houses and working with his hands. Herb and Carol enjoyed RVing across the United States and especially enjoyed, Mt. Hood, Ore.

A celebration of Herb’s life is planned from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., March 16, 2019, in Westport, Wash., at the Tackle Box meeting room.
