James Jim Ray Harris

James Jim Ray Harris born June 25, 1940 in Tuckasegee, North Carolina, died Feb. 28, 2015, at home surrounded by his family.

 Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Calvin Harris and Zora Panetta Galloway-Harris;  brother, Don Harris; and nephew, Don “Butch” Harris Jr.

Jim loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping.  He loved to sit around the fire with family and friends and pass around a mason jar or two of shine.  He was known for his fairness, honesty and level head.  Jim spent his life working in the woods operating heavy equipment and self-loader log truck.  Jim was a Staff Sgt. in the 303rd Armored Division of the Army National Guard. He was a volunteer Firefighter/First Responder with LCFD #5 for 15 years, holding the rank of Battalion Chief for most of those years.  For years, Jim spent time on the CB Band and was known as Felix the Cat.  Jim loved old bluegrass and country music.  

He is survived by the love of his life, Ruth Ann Cline-Harris; daughter, Janie (KC) Goodman; sons, James Buzz (Lani) Harris and Pete (Dawn) Harris; sister-in-law, Jean Harris; nieces, Brenda (Jay) Bush and Donna Harris; nephew, James Harris; grandchildren, Christalle Harris, Cameron Harris, Colton Harris, Heather Harris, Pete Harris and MacKenzey Harris; three great-grandchildren; great-nephew; and two great-nieces; and numerous cousins.    

There will be a memorial service on March 7, 2015 from 1-4 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 123 W. Main St. Chehalis.  The family invites you to stay for a potluck gathering after.
