Barbara Ann Lindholm

Barbara A. Lindholm, 68, beloved friend, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away  at St. Peter Hospital in Olympia,  Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012  due to complications from  treatment for a brain tumor via small cell lung cancer.

Barb, a member of the Cowlitz Tribe, was born in Tacoma on July 31, 1944 to Josephine and Issac Kinswa. She grew up in Ethel, Wash., and  attended grade school in Toledo and high school in Onalaska.

In 1959, she married and  had two children. Later, she raised her two children as a single parent  in Chehalis. After remarrying in 1974, she, her husband, five children and three step-children lived in Oakville, Wash. In 1980, with two children grown, the rest of the family moved to Southern California and then to South Dakota in 1985.

Barb worked in the food service industry most of her adult life. In 2006, she moved back home to Toledo and worked as head cook for the Cowlitz Indian Tribe, retiring in December 2010. She enjoyed going to the casinos, having meals out with family and friends, sewing quilts, camping, going to garage sales and picking berries to bake in cobblers and pies to eat and share with those she loved.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents and son, Robert Lindholm.

She is survived by  her children, Barbara (Bobbi) Smith Cox, William Kinswa, Lori Lindholm Sterkel, Christine Lindholm Schwebach,  Jon Lindholm, Angela Lindholm  Van Liere, and Tom Lindholm, 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Siblings, Mick Kinswa, Dianna Smalley, David Kinswa Sr., Patty Kinswa-Gaiser and Wendy Kinswa.

A  memorial was held at Ike Kinswa State Park on Aug. 28, 2012. Next year another gathering will be held in a place special to Barb, where her ashes will be spread. The exact date is pending. Please email her daughter Bobbi at Bobbicox7@hotmail.com if you wish to be on the list for notification.
