WSECU has announced it has awarded three college scholarships to Lewis County students.

Timothy Goodwin, of Toledo, was awarded a $2,500 scholarship to attend California State University in Chico.

Two other students who are attending two-year community college or vocational programs were awarded $1,500 scholarships. Lyndsay Lawrence, of Chehalis, will be attending Centralia College, while Amber Owens, of Chehalis, will be attending Clark College.

“It’s never been clearer that getting an education is the key to future stability and success,” Ann Flannigan, vice president of public relations, said. “We don’t want the costs of college to limit our members’ potential and we’re thrilled to offer the WSECU scholarship program to help them achieve their goals.”

The scholarships are three of 30 awarded by the credit union this year. In all, WSECU will provide $64,500 in higher education support for students enrolled in the 2017-18 academic school year, according to the release.

WSECU received more than 400 applicants for its annual college scholarship program for this year. Recipients are selected by an employee and credit union member committee. They are based on an evaluation of the student’s academic record, financial need, community involvement and a written essay. All recipients are WSECU members.
