Volunteer Day for Tenino Veteran’s Adapted House Set for May 18

National nonprofit Homes for Our Troops has scheduled a Volunteer Day for May 18 in Tenino for community members to lend a hand in the landscaping around an adapted house being built for wounded veteran Jereme Sawyer.

Homes For Our Troops has built more than 275 houses across the country for wounded veterans to aid in their recovery efforts and set them up for success in life despite their injuries. Sawyer lost both his legs when an improvised explosive device detonated underneath his feet about six years ago in Helmand, Province, Afghanistan.

Sawyer’s build kicked off last fall when Homes for Our Troops put on an event at Tenino Elementary School. The organization also holds key ceremonies when houses are completed so the public can help the veteran celebrate the occasion. Those usually take place about two months after the volunteer day.

More details about the May 18 event will be made public as the day draws closer.
