More than $90,000 was raised for Dollars for Scholars at the Harvesting Scholars dinner and auction on Oct. 28.

That money, including a $50,000 donation from The Centralians, will benefit the Centralia High School Class of 2018. This year the goal is to award $1,000 to every student who applies, according to the press release.

More than 100 silent auction items and 30 live auction items were sold at the event. In one of the more fun moments of the evening, a “dessert dash” was held, raising $4,000.  Schools from throughout the district competed in a special silent auction, with the basket made from the school that garnered the most money — won by Edison Elementary — receiving a catered lunch by Superintendent Mark Davalos and the school board. This event was coordinated by Kristeen Johnson.

The event would not have been possible without generous financial donations from organizations such as Port Blakely, Centralia College Foundation, Tiki Tap House, Titus Will, Quanex, and Chehalis Sheet Metal, the press release said.
