Thurston, Lewis County Crews Head to California to Help Fight Deadly Wildfires

Firefighters in Lacey are on their way to help fight massive wildfires burning in Northern California.

Lacey Fire District 3 tweeted photos Thursday of a crew preparing to head out. They planned to meet up with other units in the strike team before driving down Friday morning.

Lewis County Fire District 5 and Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority also tweeted they were sending crews to California.



The Seattle Times reported  65 firefighters with Washington's Department of Natural Resources were going to California. The firefighters are based in the Ahtanum State Forest in Yakima County and the Loomis State Forest in Okanogan County.

As of late Friday, the fires had killed 34 people and burned more than 191,000 acres.
