Thurston County Updates Agreement With Lewis County Jail

Thurston County commissioners on Tuesday approved an update to a interlocal agreement with Lewis County to house Thurston County inmates at the Lewis County jail when needed.

In the update, the cost of housing an inmate is $63.39 a day, which is one cent higher than the previous agreement. A mid-term budget adjustment was submitted in August for the additional funding next year to cover the estimated impact of the rate increase, according to a staff report.

Lewis County agrees to transport inmates between Thurston County Jail and the Lewis County Jail up to three roundtrips a week at no charge. For additional trips, Lewis County will charge Thurston County for the staff and fuel costs of the trip.

The agreement must be approved by Lewis County commissioners, who agreed to a similar deal with Pacific County during their regular meeting Monday.
