Thurston County Mails Over 7,080 Ballots to Military, Overseas Voters

Thurston County has mailed over 7,080 ballots and voters’ pamphlets to military and overseas civilian voters for the Nov. 7 general election, according to the county auditor’s elections division.

The mailing is 45 days in advance of election day to give the voters time to learn about the candidates and issues, and to vote and return their ballots.

Ballot declarations have to be signed and dated by election day or received by email or fax by 8 p.m. Pacific Time on election night, according to a press release.

“Last year, military members voted on state and federal candidates. This year, they’ll vote on the people taking care of their roads, police, fire, schools, and everything else in the community they call home,” Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall said. “And as a friendly reminder, voters don’t have to vote on every single race. They can vote on as many or as few races as they want and their ballot will still count.”

Military and overseas voters who have not received a ballot by Oct. 18 should call or email the elections division at 360-786-5408 or elections@co.thurston.wa.us for a replacement ballot. Ballots can also be downloaded online at www.ThurstonVotes.org.

Voter pamphlets will be mailed to households in Thurston County by Oct. 15. Ballots to regular voters will be mailed on Oct. 18.

The Lewis County Auditor’s Office announced it also sent ballots to military and overseas voters last week.
