State Rep. Richard Debolt (R-Chehalis) received a City Champion Award from the Association of Washington Cities at the Chehalis City Council meeting on Monday for his work last year to preserve the Public Works Trust Fund.

The fund is administered at the state level to support infrastructure projects in smaller cities. DeBolt and other legislators kept the program off the chopping block in 2017 during contentious budget talks.

“We thought we were really up against it,” said AWC Government Relations Advocate Carl Schroeder. “Without folks like Rep. DeBolt, we wouldn’t have that account today.”

Schroder was on hand Monday to present DeBolt with a plaque commemorating his award. The state legislator thanked the AWC for the award.

“The Public Works Trust Fund is important to a lot of small cities out there,” DeBolt said. “Our caucus is very passionate about it and has been for awhile. I appreciate this, it’s very nice to be recognized by the Association of Washington Cities.”
