Sirens: Car Goes Up in Flames; Family Dispute; Driving Too Fast; Pedestrian Hit and Run

Up in Flames

• The Riverside Fire Authority and Centralia police responded to a car fire at the northbound side of the Kresky Avenue viaduct near the crest in Centralia. The crews received the call at 6:50 p.m. on Thursday. The 1998 Ford Cordova was heavily involved when they arrived on scene. The two Centralia women who had been in the car had exited the vehicle and were unharmed. Responders quickly controlled the fire. The women said they started to smell smoke inside the car and then saw smoke underneath the steering wheel column and the car became disabled. They reported that it immediately burst into flames after they exited the car, which was a total loss. Preliminary investigation shows that the fire was likely caused by an electrical wiring problem in the dashboard area.

Driving Too Fast

• A 46-year-old man was cited for speeding after he put his pickup in the eastbound ditch in the 3100 block of Cooks Hill Road in Centralia. The man was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma and told responders the road was slick and he couldn’t slow down as he was traveling downhill into the curves. The incident occurred at about 3:15 p.m. and vehicle was on its side when responders arrived. The man was uninjured and the pickup had minor damage.

Family Dispute

• John L. Lininger, 41, of Centralia was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, after a dispute with a family member. The incident occurred at 10:49 a.m. Thursday in the 900 block of North Washington Avenue in Centralia.

Domestic Violence

• Police arrested and booked Nashaun T. Hammond, 38, Centralia, for third-degree malicious mischief, domestic violence, at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia.

Pedestrian Hit and Run

• A pedestrian received minor injuries after he was struck by a car in the 800 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia at 2:48 a.m. on Friday. The pedestrian refused treatment for road rash and injury to his right knee. The 29-year-old man from Centralia reported that a green or teal Chevrolet Cavalier continued driving after hitting him and didn’t stop.
