Recycling Pilot Program Hits Downtown Chehalis

Four blue recycling containers on loan from Seattle have made their way to Market Boulevard in downtown Chehalis.

The city of Chehalis and the Chehalis Community Renaissance Team (CCRT) have partnered to launch a pilot project encouraging patrons to recycle bottles and cans while downtown. All four bins have been installed next to garbage receptacles and will remain there through fall.

If the test run goes well, the city and CCRT plan to install permanent recycling containers and potentially increase the number available.

“The presence of recycling bins downtown is a visible way for residents, employees and tourists to understand that Chehalis is doing their part by recycling,” CCRT Executive Director Annalee Tobey said in a press release. “We encourage our downtown Chehalis patrons to use these receptacles to keep our downtown clean, safe and beautiful.”
