New Fire Chief Comes to Napavine

    Fire District 5 has filled its vacant fire chief position, the district serving Napavine and surrounding areas announced this morning.

    Eric Linn started fighting fires in 1985, and was active with the Griffin Fire District in Olympia and Thurston County Fire District 1, formerly known as the Grand Mound Fire District.

    Linn was enlisted in the Marines, and served during Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Restore Hope in Somalia, said Lt. Laura Hanson with the Napavine Fire District.

    “We’re really, really excited to have him as chief,” Hanson said.

    Linn has spent many of his years in the Rochester area, but has lived in Onalaska and Bellingham as well. He will be sworn in officially on Saturday.

Salkum Fire Chief Suspended

    Salkum Fire Chief Phillip McDaniel has been put on administrative leave, a fire official confirmed this morning.

    The reasons were not disclosed.

    Mike Tamble, secretary for the Salkum board of fire commissioners, declined to comment on the leave, but said the commissioners would be meeting with an attorney this morning to “figure out what they can or can’t say.”



    The commissioners could not be contacted by press time this morning.

Concessionaires and Vendors Needed for Pe Ell Polish Daze

    Pe Ell Polish Daze is seeking concessionaires and vendors for the third annual Aug. 1-2 event.

    Of special interest are vendors selling Polish merchandise and preparing and selling authentic Polish food, but all vendors and concessionaires are welcome.

White Pass Graduates Plan Combined Class Reunion

    White Pass High School classes 1968 and 1969 will celebrate 40 years of life after graduation by having a combined class reunion on Saturday, June 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with prime time from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    The celebration will be held at Fort Borst Park in Centralia, in Kitchen 1. Bring your own chair, something to drink and photos.

    Final food details will be given to those who R.S.V.P.
