New Banners in Downtown Chehalis Reflect History

New banners now line light poles on Market Boulevard in Chehalis, “giving a shout-out to the downtown’s past.”

There are now 15 banners that include historic images.

“Look closely and you will notice that each photo corresponds to the area in which it was placed,” Annalee Tobey, executive director of the Chehalis Community Renaissance Team, said.

The banners are a joint project between the Chehalis Community Renaissance Team, the city of Chehalis and the Lewis County Historical Museum.

“This project is another example of the progress that can be made between great partners with common goals,” Tobey said. “It is our hope the banners will add to the historic atmosphere downtown and enhance the experience for our local shoppers and out-of-town guests.  We have a tremendous history and we are proud to have that on display.”

The initial installation is the first phase of the banner project, according to a press release. Tobey said they plan to expand the banners to other areas of downtown later this year.

“This first batch will test the banners’ durability before further investment is made,” she said.

The banners are part of CCRT’s work plan, which includes initiatives and projects focused on community building, economic development, quality design, traffic and parking and downtown development.
