A 35-year-old Glenoma woman who emigrated to the United States from Ghana, Africa, is accused of voter fraud in Lewis County Superior Court.
Marda Aglubi-Blomstrom is expected on Feb. 16 to enter a plea to one count of providing false information on an application for voter registration.
According to court documents, Aglubi-Blomstrom's estranged husband, Richard Blomstrom, alerted authorities in March 2010 to his wife fraudulently registering to vote in Lewis County.
An investigation revealed Aglubi-Blomstrom had registered to vote on the Internet and fraudulently answered "yes" to being a U.S. citizen, according to court documents.
Immigration confirmed the defendant is not a U.S. citizen, court documents state.
The maximum penalty for falsifying voter registration is five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Defense attorney Bob Schroeter, who represented the defendant in her preliminary appearance, said Aglubi-Blomstrom has a very limited understanding of the English language.
