The Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating the city of Winlock, the office confirmed Monday.

“We received materials and will be conducting an investigation,” Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Eric Eisenberg said.

Eisenberg said the prosecutor’s office received materials last week, and that the office has already begun reviewing the materials. He said that he does not know the general timeline of the investigation yet, and declined to comment further.

Winlock Mayor Don Bradshaw declined to comment Monday afternoon. Winlock Clerk Treasurer Tedi Curry said the risk pool attorneys would not allow Winlock personnel and officials to speak with the press.

Winlock City Council canceled its previously scheduled special meeting on Monday morning, which was meant to cover the second reading for the City of Winlock 2019 budget.

At a previous special meeting on Thursday, Dec. 13, Winlock City Council approved the first reading for the City of Winlock 2019 budget.

“Due to a lack of legal counsel, incorrect verbiage was used,” Bradshaw said. “Therefore, we need to set a new special meeting for the first reading and an additional special meeting for the second reading. … I used a simple word of ‘adjourn’ instead of ‘recess.’ So, therefore, we could do several things, but I’ve chosen to take the high road and we will just start over and do it correct on the 19th and 20th.”

Winlock City Council has a special meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19 for the first reading of the budget and another scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20 for the second reading of the budget.
