On Tuesday, Feb. 4, Immanuel Lutheran Church Pastor Peter Mohr and church council President Claudia Craig presented a check for $5,000 to the Lewis County Rotary Foundation earmarked for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library project.

Immanuel’s donation is the result of a major gift to the church from a now deceased member, Dr. Richard Phillips of Centralia. Phillips was a retired dentist

“This gift speaks to the power that one person’s faith can have. As a result of Dr. Phillips’ generosity, the gift of early childhood literacy will be extended to many Lewis County families,” Mohr said.

Craig explained that when an endowment gift is given to the church, it has a policy of tithing or giving 10 percent to a variety of outreach efforts beyond its congregation. At the local level, Immanuelhas identified children’s welfare as a high priority commitment.

The church has long been involved in organizing Kids’ Kloset and is now extending its contribution to children through the Dolly Parton reading project.

The local branch of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program is being jointly sponsored by Centralia Rotary, Chehalis Rotary, Twin Cities Rotary and United Way of Lewis County.
