Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler has launched an online presentation of photos and stories of Southwest Washington veterans who participated in the Veterans History Project by the Library of Congress.

The presentation will be available through November and is online at jhb.house.gov. She met with veterans at the Veterans Memorial Museum in Chehalis last month as one of her stops for the project.

“Through my efforts to bring the Veterans History Project here to Southwest Washington, I’ve been humbled to hear the first-hand accounts of military combat from the men and women who served in World War II, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, and on the front lines around the globe,” Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, said in a press release. “I’m extremely pleased to share a few of the highlights of those stories that are being archived in the Library of Congress to commemorate those individuals for Veterans Day – and beyond.”

Herrera Beutler said that as the region’s federal representative in Congress, she looks to honor the nation’s heroes by helping veterans obtain the services they earned through individual assistance and legislation.

“I think it’s equally important that the rest of us understand the threats they faced, sacrifices they made, and challenges they endured to protect our nation – and this presentation offers a glimpse of those experiences,” she said.

Veterans featured in the slideshow all participated in the Veterans History Project events Herrera Beutler held last month in Lewis and Clark counties. The recorded interviews are currently in the process of being submitted for preservation at the Library of Congress, according to the release.
