Group B Water Systems Facing Rule Changes; Meetings Set

Posted

By The Chronicle

The Washington Department of Health is hosting in Tumwater on Wednesday one of four meetings it is holding across the state to discuss Group B water systems, which will be affected by rule changes that are now in review.

Group B water systems are very small water systems throughout the state.

The Department of Health is explaining the draft rule changes and taking public comments at the meetings.

The Wednesday meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Department of Health building at 310 Israel Rd., Tumwater.

Group B public water systems serve fewer than 15 connections and fewer than 25 people per day. There are 13,000 Group B water systems in Washington, providing service to about 110,000 people.

The Department of Health and local health agencies share responsibility for regulating these water systems.

In 2009, the state eliminated funding for the systems and revised the law to provide regulatory flexibility.
