Fairyblossom Festival Moves to Pe Ell for Weekend of Mystical Folklore

This year, the fourth annual Fairyblossom Festival is moving from Yard Birds in Chehalis out to Red Hawk Avalon in Pe Ell, where it will take place over the weekend of June 29.

“We have so many new things this year because we have been able to upgrade and double the size of the event,” said Ammie Hague, owner of FAE Productions.

FAE Productions is a fantasy arts and entertainment company. Hague noted she prefers the title “Fairy Princess Lolly,” which is her professional name.

“One of the big differences is the location,” Hague said. “The second major, big difference is it is meant to be an all-weekend camping event to come to and stay at, not a day market to just sort of come and pass through. Last year, programing ended at 6 p.m., this year it goes to midnight both days and ends at 4 p.m. on Sunday.”

Hague expects a few hundred people to attend the family-friendly festival.

Throughout the course of the weekend, participants may win fairy coins for prizes while playing various games. Participants can use the coins to barter with goblins for prizes as well.

Attendees are invited to camp for the entire weekend. The festival includes games, vendors, workshops, nerf battles, bartering with goblins, Stone Soup Potluck, music, bonfires, wooded trails and a mermaid.

“Mermaid Merlynne is swimming up Rock Creek to join us,” Hague said. “Basically, we have a mermaid that is out and people can interact with the mermaid.”

The festival began in a field at Yard Birds, but Hague said the festival will be much larger this time around. This year, the festival takes place on the weekend of June 29 across all three days. It is located at Red Hawk Avalon, which is at 26 Red Hawk Road in Pe Ell.

“We really had a focus this year on trying to broaden people’s horizon in what is included in the realm of fairy fantasy,” Hague said. “People always have the notion that it’s Tinkerbell. We want to create an environment where all the fantasy creatures are welcome to come. We focus on what is the actual folklore surrounding these creatures.”
