Dmitri Matheny Band to Perform at Washington Park in Centralia

The Centralia Downtown Association will be presenting a free concert by jazz artist Dmitri Matheny and his band at Centralia’s George Washington Park 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 24.

Matheny, who relocated from San Francisco to Centralia in 2016, is the recent winner of Seattle’s coveted Golden Ear award as “Northwest Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year.”

The concert — part of Matheny’s 100-city national tour and the bicentennial celebration of Centralia’s founder George Washington — will feature Milo Petersen on guitar, Phil Sparks bass, Mark Ivester drums and the leader on flugelhorn.



Acclaimed for his warm tone, soaring lyricism and masterful technique,American musician Matheny has been lauded as “one of the most emotionally expressive improvisers of his generation” (International Review of Music).

An honors graduate of Berklee College of Music, Matheny vaulted onto the jazz scene in the 1990s as the protégé of jazz legend Art Farmer. Since then he has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal international following, releasing 11 CDs and touring extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.The San Francisco Chronicle calls Matheny “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players.”
