The Board of Lewis County Commissioners approved a proclamation on Monday that recognizes the county’s public utility district for its contributions to the community.

Lewis County will join over 2,000 other public power systems in the nation in the “celebration of public power and recognition that the PUD is good for consumers, business, the community and the nation,” according to the proclamation.

The proclamation states the Lewis County PUD employs sound business practices designed to ensure the best service possible at not-for-profit rates, while also contributing to the well-being of local citizens through a variety of programs that include energy efficiency, customer service and safety awareness.

“… The PUD is a dependable and trustworthy institution that provides many consumer protections and continues to make our community a better place in which to live and work, while also contributing to the protection of the global environment,” states the proclamation.

The PUD was created in 1936 to serve the citizens of the county, with the exception of those in Centralia who rely on Centralia City Light for electricity.

PUD commissioners Dean Dahlin and Ben Kostick attended the meeting.

Corenne Moses, PUD spokeswoman, said the PUD’s main focus is to remind the public that they are owners of the local district.

“We are local owners with local voices,” she said.
