Realtors to Clean Up Historic Cemetery

About 50 members  of the Thurston County Association of Realtors will be cleaning up the Mima Prairie Pioneer Cemetery from 8:30 a.m. until noon Thursday.

The Realtors have been doing this for several years,  and it is one of the main ways the historic cemetery is kept up..This year, descendants of those buried in the old orchard are joining the cleanup. Some found out about it by reading a news story on the old cemetery.

Relay for Life Coming to Fairgrounds

Relay for Life of Lewis County will get underway with an opening ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday at the Southwest Washington Fairgrounds.

Relay for Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Team members take turns walking on a designated path over a specified period. Each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps.

One of the features of the Relay for Life is the Luminaria Ceremony, which starts 11 p.m. Friday. Each luminaria represents a life — a life taken by cancer, a survivor of cancer or support for a person still fighting the disease.

The closing ceremony is at noon Saturday.
