Chehalis Fire Department Warns of Possible Scam

The Chehalis Fire Department is warning area residents about a group soliciting money using the department’s name without its permission.

Chief Ken Cardinale told The Chronicle Thursday that the group, linked to website beasafecommunity.org, contacted a firefighter and used that person’s name on a flyer, which he said made the group’s solicitation for donations seem as if it was coming from the fire department.

“I want the public to be aware the Chehalis Fire Department will never be calling you on your cell, home, or business phone asking for donations,” Cardinale wrote in a press release.

The city and the fire department did not sanction the group to use its information, Cardinale said, adding that he hasn’t yet been able to determine the legitimacy of the organization.

The group reported they are affiliated with the National Safety Council, but when Cardinale called the NSC, he said they’d never heard of the Be Safe group.

“Be wary of anyone asking for donations in the name of the Chehalis Fire Department and call us directly at 360-748-3394 prior to making any donations,” Cardinale wrote in a press release.
