A Department of Defense program recently honored four supervisors at the Centralia Police Department for their efforts to support members of the National Guard and Reserve programs.

Centralia Police Chief Carl Nielsen, Commander Patrick Fitzgerald, Sgt. Carl Buster and Officer Doug Lowery were presented with Patriot awards on March 15 by the Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program, a part of the Department of Defense.

They were nominated by Army National Guard Spc. Samantha Cisneros, who is also a reserve officer with the department.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Ohad Lowy, public affairs director for the Washington ESGR.

Nielsen said the officers were surprised to be nominated. He signed a statement of support on behalf of the police department, which confirms their support for the Guard and Reserve, according to the ESGR.

“As a new reserve officer and with all the military training going on for deployment, Centralia Police Department has been exceptionally supportive,” Cisneros said in a statement. “Can’t thank them enough for allowing me this opportunity even with deployment around the corner.”
