Candidates Line Up for First Day of Filing Week

Posted

The first day of filing week brought few surprises Monday.

First-day filings included candidates who had all previously announced their intentions to seek office. As of Monday evening, 27 candidates had filed in 21 offices.

The most heated race thus far appears to be that off the Lewis County assessor.

Dianne Dorey, Lewis County assessor for the past 16 years, will face two challengers.

Candy Hallom, an administrative assistant for the Lewis County Commission and the administrator of the Lewis County Board of Equalization, and Martha Hunt, a Realtor at Coldwell Banker Kline & Associates, will run against Dorey.

All three assessor candidates filed Monday and listed themselves as Republicans.

Only two of the six men who have announced their candidacy for the Lewis County Commission filed on the first day.

Michael Messmore, Toledo, a retired Boeing 747 Captain for Delta and Kalitta Air, and Onalaska resident John Roe, a retired air cargo representative for United and Continental at SeaTac Airport, both filed Monday for the Position 3 seat that represents south and east Lewis County.

The current commissioner in Position 3, Lee Grose, said he will likely not run for office this year.

Toledo Mayor Jerry Pratt, White Pass Principal Gary Stamper and Onalaska residents Omroa Bhagwandin and Rich Bainbridge have reportedly expressed interest in filing for the Position 3 seat.

The remaining four commission candidates have not filed as of Monday evening.

Filing week will last through Friday. In-person filing is welcome at the Lewis County Historic Courthouse until 4:30 p.m. Friday. Online filing is open until 4 p.m. Friday.

To file online, visit the county website at vote.wa.gov/lewis and click on Online Candidate Filing.

Mail-in declarations will also be accepted until Friday.

A special three-day filing period will take place Monday, May 19, to Wednesday, May 21, if nobody files for a specific office in Lewis County during the regular filing week.
