New Year’s Day Hike Planned for Lewis and Clark State Park

Lewis and Clark State Park will be having a “First Day Hike” on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.

Park staff will be leading a guided hike through the old-growth forest. They will talk about the history of the area, and the local flora and fauna.

This hike will begin at

10 a.m. at the gate of the main entrance of the park, north of Toledo at 4583 Jackson Highway.

This moderate uphill 2-mile trek takes visitors under towering cedar and fir trees strung with lichen and moss, and through a lush understory teeming with ferns. The trails are often wet during the winter months, so come prepared for a potentially damp experience.

Don’t forget to bring plenty of water, warm clothing and rain gear (just in case). Sturdy hiking shoes or muck-boots are strongly encouraged. All ages are welcome, and dogs are allowed on leash. The first 20 hikers will receive a souvenir pin.

This park is open to hiking year round, so additional trails are available for those interested.

A Washington State Parks Discover Pass is not required for this event.

For additional details or in case of inclement weather, call 360-274-0962.
