Burglary Deals Setback to Centralia Distillery

Somebody must have really wanted to try one of the newer products from Blind Pig Spirits in north Centralia, but they certainly didn’t go about it the right way.

Centralia police responded to the 700 block of North Tower Avenue for a report of a burglary to a business at 6:19 Sunday morning. That business, Blind Pig Spirits, sustained heavy damage to its front door after the glass had been smashed.

Co-owner Lesa Givens said Wednesday that whoever broke into the building had stolen two bottles of the company’s Apple Pie Shine. The product is replaceable, but just the fact that someone felt the need to break into their establishment in the middle of the night is irksome, Givens said.

“When you’re a small business, it’s a setback,” Givens said. “It’s kind of a bummer.”

Givens said the company is taking no chances, and will install surveillance cameras in an effort to deter such activity in the future. They will hire A Glass Enterprise in Centralia to repair the $400 glass pane on the front door as well.

“We’ll replace the glass, and we’ll be okay,” Givens said. “It could have been worse.”

Officer John Panco with the Centralia Police Department told The Chronicle that as of noon Wednesday, officers have not made any arrests or developed a person of interest in the case.

“This is one of those that it’s tough to find out anything unless somebody talks,” Panco said.
