Brigham Young University Choir to Perform in Centralia

The Brigham Young University Singers, a 40-voice ensemble choir from Provo, Utah, will make a stop in Centralia on its two-week Pacific Northwest tour.

The renowned choir will perform in Corbet Theatre at Centralia College at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9.

The BYU Singers perform pieces from various periods and styles, including international folk songs, hymns, and African-American spirituals.

The choir’s concerts always include hymns, anthems, folk songs and spiritual tunes.

Dr. Ronald J. Staheli, the founding conductor of the choir, has led the group since it started 1984. The group has performed now for 30 years.

The BYU Singers have traveled to over 27 countries throughout the world, including Russia, Romania, Hungary, Austria, England, Italy, Israel, Egypt, New Zealand and South Africa.



The choir recently toured England.

While traveling the world, the choir has performed in famous concert halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Sydney Opera House and Town Hall, the Kapella in St. Petersburg, the Musik Verin in Vienna and the new Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

The choir started 30 years ago in the School of Music of the College of Fine Arts & Communications at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Payment must be made by check or money order. No credit cards will be accepted.

Will-call tickets can be picked up at the event. If the show is not sold out, tickets will be available at the door.
