BREAKING NEWS: Man Drowns in Strip Mine Pond

Posted

A man drowned Tuesday evening in North Centralia, at a popular swimming hole near Schaeffer Park.

The man's name and age have not been released, although eyewitnesses said he appeared to be about 60 years old.

The man was administered CPR on a small island in the middle of the pond, where a law enforcement official had swum about 50 yards to reach him.

Of the dozens of onlookers on two sides of the strip mine pond, none knew the man, although some said he was with one other person who was not at the scene when his body was transported in an ambulance.
