The Boys and Girls Club of Chehalis
The recently opened Boys and Girls Club of Chehalis will be holding a fundraising breakfast event from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov 8.
Organizers have billed it "the most important meal of the year."
“We are so excited for our first annual fundraising breakfast and we can’t wait to share what we have been doing at the Boys and Girls Club over the last two months,” states a press release from the organization.
The keynote speaker will be Lynda Coates, from Communication Across Barriers. She will speak about growing up in poverty and how the clubs have an impact on children facing those circumstances.
Coates has a master’s degree in communication from Portland State University. She has been speaking and training for over nine years across the country.
“She is an authentic voice, born into generational poverty, who grew up homeless with her parents and five siblings,” states information from the Boys and Girls Club.
Donna Beegle, the current owner of Communication Across Barriers, is Coates’ cousin. Beegle also experienced poverty as a single mom.
For the last six years, Coates has been consulting with high poverty schools throughout Washington and Oregon that have received the federal GEAR UP grant, which is designed to keep low-income students in school while preparing them for college.
