Posted

A primary election will be held on Aug. 1 in Lewis County for four positions that have three candidates who have filed for office, as well as an emergency medical services property tax levy in Napavine.

The positions in the primary will include the county clerk, Centralia council Positions 1 and 3, and Riverside Fire Authority commissioner Position 4.

Three people have filed for each. For the county clerk, Carla Shannon, Scott Tinney and Linda Williams will be facing off in the primary. Ron Greenwood, Penny Jo Haney and Cameron McGee filed for Centralia Council District 1, while Colin Hamilton, Kurtis Engle and Max Vogt filed for Centralia Council District 3. Bonnie Canaday, Matt Evans and Amber Ferrano filed for Riverside Fire Authority commissioner Position 4.

The only measure on the ballot will be an emergency medical services property tax levy for Lewis County Fire Protection District 5 in Napavine. The measure asks for a levy of up to 40 cents per $1,000 in assessed valuation for six consecutive years.

Ballots must be postmarked by Aug. 1 or returned to one of the county’s drop boxes by 8 p.m. on election night. If an individual has not received his or her ballot within 10 days of the mailing date, they are asked to contact the Auditor’s Office at 360-740-1156.

July 3 is the last day to register through the mail and online, and is also the last day to transfer or update existing voter registration. The last day for in-person registration if not currently registered to vote in Washington is July 24.

The two candidates with the most votes in each race will move onto the general election in November.
