A tow truck uses cables to lift a vehicle out of Mayfield Lake on Monday afternoon. On Sunday night, the SUV veered off of U.S. Highway 12 and crashed into the lake, killing the driver and passenger of the vehicle.
An Olympia driver and Mossyrock passenger were killed Sunday night when their vehicle crashed into Mayfield Lake.
The crash was reported at 8:25 p.m. Sunday and occurred at milepost 82 of U.S. Highway 12 about 4 miles west of Mossyrock.
The vehicle, a 2013 Audi Q7 SUV driven by Eric T. Sprague, 44, of Olympia, was reportedly heading east when it left the road to the right and became fully submerged in the lake, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Both Eric Sprague and passenger Lorraine J. Sprague, 60, of Mossyrock, died at the scene, according to the State Patrol.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. The cause of the crash is pending investigation.
Crews remained at the scene Monday afternoon as they pulled the vehicle from the lake with a tow truck.
