Athletes of the Year Awards Set for Tuesday at Centralia College

Posted

The Chronicle and LewisCountySports.com are hosting the first Athletes of the Year awards at 7 p.m. Tuesday inside the newly open TransAlta Commons at Centralia College.

The awards focus on honoring the top athlete for both girls and boys in every high school sport. A male and female Athlete of the Year will also be announced, in addition to the Coaching Staff of the Year.

Chronicle Sports Department staff, led by Sports Editor Aaron VanTuyl, selected the finalists for the awards based on input from coaches and statistics from the past year.

“Our Sports staff spends each day chronicling the efforts of local kids and making sure their accomplishments are reported for the community,” Chronicle Publisher Christine Fossett said. “This is just another way for us to show our commitment to area youths. We look forward to making this an annual celebration of our area’s student athletes.”

The 7 p.m. ceremony is open to the public and area athletes, their families as well as coaches and school staff are encouraged to attend. There are three nominees in each category, and an invitation has been sent to each of the finalists.

There will be light refreshments at the event Tuesday.

Those with questions about the Athletes of the Year are welcome to call Editor Eric Schwartz at 360-807-8224.
