Vietnam Traveling Wall Coming This Week
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Vietnam War, the Veterans Memorial Museum will host the American Veterans Traveling Tribute, commonly referred to as the Vietnam Traveling Wall, Thursday to Sunday.
The traveling wall that will visit is the largest of the five around the country — 360 feet long and 80 percent of the size of the real wall in Washington, D.C.
There will be six programs while the wall is in Chehalis.
On Thursday, July 31, there be a laying of the wreaths at 6 p.m.
The opening ceremonies will be at 6 p.m. Friday, with Lt. Col. Travis Wofford speaking. Wofford is a recipient of the Air Force Cross.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, John Plaster will be speaking. Also on Saturday, at 4 p.m., bestselling author J.A. Jance will give a talk. In addition, there will be music by the 133rd Army Band, the Brass Patriots.
Speaking at an 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, church service will be Chaplain Stan Baker. Closing ceremonies will be at 2 p.m., with former Lewis County Commissioner Ron Averill speaking.
This is the second appearance at the museum for the traveling wall. In 2007, an estimated 12,000 people visited.
The Veterans Memorial Museum is located at 100 SW Veterans Way.
