VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler has been appointed to serve as vice chairwoman of the Financial Services and Government Oversight Appropriations Subcommittee.

The Columbian newspaper reports the subcommittee sets spending levels for the Internal Revenue Service, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission and other federal agencies.

It has jurisdiction over a variety of departments, including the executive office of the president and the U.S. Postal Service.

The Republican congresswoman from Camas, Washington, says she will use her new position to help set spending priorities that benefit the region.
