Charges are pending following a vehicle collision 12 miles south of Chehalis on Interstate 5 Friday afternoon.

Two vehicles were totaled and one person was injured in the wreck just before 4 p.m., according to the Washington State Patrol.

Michael P. Thompson, 51, of Rochester, allegedly made an illegal pass on the left shoulder while driving southbound in a 1997 Saturn. Thompson hit the barrier and lost control.

He struck a Toyota Sienna driven by Cherie M. Douffet, 41, of Maple Valley, and then hit a 2015 Mack semi-truck driven by Daniel P. Card, 51, of Aloha, Oregon. Thompson’s vehicle then hit the barrier again and stopped on the left shoulder.

Douffet was injured and transported to Providence Centralia Medical Center. Thompson and Douffet’s vehicles were totaled. The semi did not have reportable damage and was driven from the scene.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
